The Historic UXU Ranch

The Historic UXU Guest Ranch has been in operation since 1929 and is a wildlife lovers, horseback riders and photographers paradise at any time of year. Located in the Shoshone National Forest right by Yellowstone National Park East entrance with millions of acres to discover on our unique trails through forests and mountain tracks providing spectacular riding and breathtaking scenery.

Your first impression on arrival will leave you with a lifelong memory of the setting. It is a very spacious Ranch situated on the North Fork of the Shoshone River. The abundance of adequate water and open space allows the Historic UXU Ranch a perfect setting for dining in the open air while overlooking horses eating in a lush green mountain pasture. We are a smoke free Ranch to protect the environment, prevent forest fires and give all our guests the best fresh mountain air available. Horseback RidingThe Ultimate Equestrian Adventure

Horseback Riding at the Ranch is one of the main reasons people choose a Dude Ranch vacation and at the Historic UXU you will find a diverse range of riding terrain that will allow everyone from the most seasoned cowboy to the cautious newcomer a chance to enjoy this special activity.

Rides range from one hour to all day and multi day pack trips , we at the Historic UXU try to accommodate all levels of riding experience. With horses chosen just for you for the week and rides focused on what you would like, be it striding through a mountain meadow to cresting the high ridges, we can deliver

Don't miss out on the horse drive and roundup!

Every Friday evening after dinner, we shall be inviting guests who feel up to it for an exciting few hours of a horse drive and roundup. You will be escorted by our wranglers and have the chance to do some real cowboying by bringing our herd of horses back to the Ranch and be corralled.

The places on this event are limited to confident riders and those who have shown our wranglers you have what it takes during the week.

FishingSome of the best trout streams in the West

Fly-Fishing at the Ranch, where the North Fork of the Shoshone River runs through it, to small beaver ponds or even the great Yellowstone Glacier Lake, is an experience that will be treasured.

Work on your cast whether it be beginner or advanced and have a great time in spectacular mountain scenery.


HikingA quieter slower pace for those who like to get their feet on the ground

Mountain vistas, river banks, woodlands and more await your exploration. We have a variety of paths and trails for you to hike. Hiking is a great way to view the local wildlife, hear the sound of nature and get a little exercise while you're at it.

Photography

The Historic UXU Ranch situated on the Northfork of the Shoshone River between Wapiti and Yellowstone is spectacular and the home to amazing wildlife as well as scenery that takes the breath away.

Taking a horseback ride with your camera is one of the best ways to access wildlife higher into the mountains and we guarantee you will not be disappointed as in any weather this area is just inspiring. It can be very hot, or snowing in the fall and this is what makes the photographic experience unique.


RodeoEvery Night June 1st - August 31st 8:00 PM and the Cody Stampede in July

Cody, Wyoming is known as the "Rodeo Capital of the World" this place knows a thing or two about bull and bronc riding, barrel racing and rodeo clowns.

You can catch a glimpse of the western tradition nightly at the Cody Nite Rodeo from June through August, or at the huge summer July event called the Cody Stampede.

Wildlife & Photography


We often have many different types of wild animals coming through the ranch. And if not through the ranch, they are often viewed on the riding and walking trails. In the fall months the animal activity is at its highest. Coupled with the changing autumn colors, the fall season is really a photographer's dream.

Rodeo


In the summer months, from June through August, we like to take our guests out to enjoy a little evening out on the town with a Western Flare. This is not included in the price a charge of $50 per night is made to cover transport, entry to the rodeo and Cowboy entertainment.
